When I heard Scout's scream I knew they were in trouble. I knew there was not that much time left by the sound of their screams. I ran as fast as I could and I got there within seconds...faster than I thought. Its been roughly thirty years since ive seen the day light outside of my old crappy house. But I knew what I had to do so I got up and helped out. Poor Jem, breaking his arm I wish I could have gotten there sooner to stop it but I couldnt. The most important thing though is no one got badly wounded, besides the unlucky Mr. Ewell that I had no choice but to plung my knife under his rib cage. The outside world is just too much for me, I would never be able to fit in. Why, it was hard enough just standing in a corner of Jems room. I must say I do envy those who can live their lives and exist in peace. I envy, Mr. Finch and his children, Dr. Reynolds, and even Nathan for being able to see and interact with people and the world. I am to continue to watch and long for what I cannot have. To provide those who are so far apart with what I can offer. I am to continue to play the mockingbird.

TKAM #6 Perspective: Mr. Ewell

I was trying to figure out what Atticus was doing when he called up my eldest daughter Mayella to the stand, and was asking her questions that really had nothing to do with...nothing. At first there was no sweat I thought Atticus was just running out of things to argue and this was all going to be over soon.

Then Atticus started making me very nervous when he kept asking Mayella was she beaten. Atticus finally got to his point that made me scared, he made a point that Tom Robinson's left arm is useless. Therefore he could not have strangled, held down, and punched the left side of her face. I started to get nervous, but then I thought to my self...this is all white jury, they have never favored in a colored mans side, I have nothing to worry about.

Mayella`s face started to get very red and was filled with lies and guilt, I could tell everyone was starting to notice. At this point all I could think of was how im going to get my revenge on her if she cracked. I think they the tables started to turn and everyone was now starting to think the truth...that I did it.

To Kill A Mockingbird #5 Perspective: Aunt Alexandra

I could not believe my ears when Atticus asked me if I could live with them for a little while to help make Scout more lady like. I just could not believe it, I did not know how to take it, like if I should help out or not. This was because after all of these years he just now asks me to try to help Jean Louise become a proper young lady. I mean shes alomst twelve years old now and still acts like a dirty little boy! I already know this is going to be a tough one. Gosh, she curses like crazy, she dresses in overalls, and he gets into fights! She will have to be nice and clean everyday and not play dirty and I’m pretty sure that will never happen. Atticus doesn’t raise his children correctly, and I know this because, if he did Jean Louise and Jeremy wouldn’t be a disgrace to our family. Atticus should have stood up and been a man, and married after his wifes death. If he would have done this then Jean Louise could have been influenced to be more like a lady or at least a little girl. For Christmas Atticus got her an a BB gun! What kind of present is that for a little girl? He should have at least got her a tea set or something like that. If he wants her to start acting like a lady he has to start treating her like a lady. Not letting her run wild like a little grimlin like a wild hound.

To Kill A Mockingbird #4 Perspective: Mrs.Dubose

Once again Scout, and Jem the annyoing little`uns passed by my house. I asked where they were going they said to town to get some stuff. I thought I would give them a little bit of a hard time like always. Well I am not trying to be mean its just because I am just getting over Morphine addict, and I have these fits and I dont know how much longer I`m going to be here on this planet. And my one wish, or goal you could say I want to do is die free, brave, and sober.

Today as Jem and Scout passed by like I said, I started in talking about Atticus, and how he is a nigger-lover, and is one of them "dirty trash". I could tell I really did it this time because Jems face turned as red as a ripe tomato. I felt a little bad after not much though, because I had to get that off of my chest. Scout and Jem walked off after that towards town where they were heading to.

About half an hour passes and I started going into my withdrawl. Jesse hellped me into bed, and then I was lost, its like my body had a mind of its own. This was because I was addicted to morphine, and so my body was used to it. But since I have not had it in a while, I go into these fits where I lose control of everything. When I get out of it and come back out onto the porch, I noticed all of my plants were ripped, and cut up, and there was a boton a little grimy, but a nice one broken in half on my yard...Jem. I told Atticus that I wanted Jem to come fix my plants, and read to me outloud for two hours, everyday, for two months.

The first day he came I could tell he did not like it, trying to skip words and sentances in the book, but I caught him.

To Kill A Mockingbird #3 Perspective: Miss Maudie

I am very sad and disappointed that my little old adjacent house burnt down. I still am in shock and cannot really believe that this really happened. All of my belongings lost in the flames, all because of that stupid furnace. I am just happy nothing else caught on fire, like Atticus`s house, and made everything have even more perplexity than it already does. At the same time I am very sad for our loss of Mr. Avery. Scout and Jem told me some ingenuous diversions about how big and scary the fire was for them, and to see Mr. Avery come in but not out was very impacting on them. I have to give it to Atticus though, because if he did not wake up Jem and Scout they would have be isolated in the house, and if the fire was to spread they would have slept right through it and turned out ashes, like Mr. Avery. I`m still debating if a good thing that came out of this is that I have a new house living with Stephanie, different because I am used to my house, but I think I can manage. I only have one question really, why did this have to happen right when I was starting to enjoy everything, like the nice cool weather that dropped in with a little rain and snow? I mean come on really its the first snow fall since 1885, we should be able to enjoy these days not have to worry about a house burning to the crisp.

To Kill A Mockingbird #2 Perspective: Jem

My name is Jem, you would know me as Scouts older brother. Scout my little sister is very annoying, but im worried about her. Im afraid the freak down the street, Boo Radley, is going to capture her. There are many stories about Boo, but the main one is that he is locked away in his house by his father. He has never been seen since he is little he is in his mid thirtys now. I am worried because I can tell Scout has been hiding something from me lately, and I will figure it out one way or another.

I finally figured out what Scout has been hiding from me, because one day she came home chewing a huge wad of gum and had a couple pennys. Right when I saw it I told her to spit it out right now, and asked her where she got it from. She told me it was inside the tree in the Radley`s yard. I could not believe my ears. Everyone knows that if you touch Boo Radleys tree or anything you are expected to be killed by him. I told Scout that she really should not have done that.

On the last day of summer, Scout and I went to Ms. Rachels house to say our goodbyes to Dill for the summer. On our way there we pasted by the Radley's house, and I got stuck in between the fence to their backyard. I ended up having to take off my pants to get out of it and carry on in my shorts. Then suddenly I heard a sound that was familiar to a gun shot. Later that night I had a long fight with scout to go get my pants back over at the Radley`s place. She said she would tell Atticus on me if I did. But I needed them so I went anyway. When I entered their backyard I saw my pants, but they wernt still caught on the fence. The wierd thing about the pants was that they were folded neatly, and they were sewed nicely like they were brand new. I had a very weird feeling about this so i ran over got them and left, and I figured I would think about this when I was safe away from the Radley house.

To Kill A Mockingbird #1 Perspective Burris Ewell

It was my first day of first grade at school. My teacher was Miss Caroline, it did not take me very long to tell that she was very annoying. Today was my first and only day of school. My family and I only go to school one day of the school year, and that is the first day. Miss Caroline was one of those teachers that I knew I had to put my foot down before she did, so i decided right out of the shoot to be as tough as possible. I don`t even know how all the other kids can make it through the entire school year with teachers like Miss Caroline.

Right when I arrived at the school, and Miss Caroline and I met, And she said I had cooties and was dirty I just wanted to lay my fist in her face. I mean she thinks she can boss me around and tell me to go home and take a bath. No one can boss me around Burris Ewell is a man of himself. She told me to go wash with lye soap. What the heck is lye soap? Everyone thought I had poopworms because my neck was a dark grey color, my fingernails are black into the quick, and the back of my hands are rusty like the a 1815 chevey. After Miss Caroline told me to go home and bathe I wanted to just walk out of the classroom, but I couldnt go out letting her win, so I told her that she wasnt kicking me out I was leaving.

Im pretty sure everyone in that class hates me, maybe even the entire school. The thing we have in common is I hate them too! Little chuck is the only person who in a way stood up for me, and when Miss Caroline grabbed my arm he said that wasnt a good idea, and he was right.

reflection

Immigration Project Reflection
I liked my literature circle book because it had a lot about history and it taught me a lot. I learned a ton about immigration and how they had to travel, and live for a while. Something significant that I Learned about my book, “Hello America” by Livia Bitton-Jackosn, was the history about the immigration ships and how they came over on them and saw the Statue of Liberty so they knew they were free. I thought that was the coolest thing because I can picture it in my head, a large ship filled with hundreds of people, and going into the New York Harbor with the Statue of Liberty peering at you. I think that the way we do our lit circles is good, the only thing that I think could be a problem, is if you don’t have a computer or it doesn’t work. I had little problems with blogging, but sometimes I would be somewhere where there is no computer and that would be a problem.
When we first got the choices we could pick for our painting I already was positive I was going to change the book cover. I already knew that because the book cover that the book already had, could have been changed so that it tells the story of the book a little more. So that is what I did, I made the book cover with a immigration ship heading towards the Brooklyn Bridge to represent New York and America, and then I put the Statue of Liberty in the background to represent freedom. I believe that my painting connects to the book very well, because its about a immigrant family coming from Europe that escaped the holocaust to start their new lives in a new free world. My painting turned out almost exactly as I wanted it too. I thought that the Statue of Liberty could have had more detail or been a greener color, but otherwise it was perfect. By doing this art project I learned how to write an artist statement and what and artist statement was.
I believe my interviews went very well, very smooth. At first I could not get a hold of my interviewee, so I ended up changing my immigrant and getting my interviews done with him. I thought that it was different to interview my person three times, I would have rather done one long interview, but as long as I got the information and learned something I was happy. I learned that he was coming over to get money for his family to help them out. Being able to interview a real immigrant helped me understand what it was really like to have to travel to America.

Book Review

The most recent book I have read is Hello America written by Livia Bitton-Jackson. This book is about a jewish girl named Elli, from Auschwitz, that was involed in the Holocaust, and immigrated to America to start a new life. This book shows how hard it was for a new immigrant to be able to come to America, and start their new life.

This book was very good, right away I was interested in the book. This book teaches a lot about the history of immigration, and what it was like to live back then. The book starts off with Elli waking up on the immigration ship, and seeing the New York Habor approach her. Then the book goes off into her history, so later in the book you have a better understanding of what happens.

I would suggest this book to people who are interested in history about America, and immigration. I found this book to be very touching. Elli, the eighteen year old immigrant had to go through a lot back in her home country. She was involed in the holocaust, and so was her family. When they excaped from the clutches of the Natiz, they decied to move to the “Land of the Free”, America. Elli was prepared to leave the dreadful memories she had in Aushchwitz behind. But what she was not ready for was starting a completely new life, at the age of eighteen in America.

I highly consider you to get this book. It teaches a lot about being a immigrant. I know I learned a lot from this book, and so could you. You will not regret buying this book by Livia Bitton-Jackson.

Hello America #6

Quote #1 "I did it, I did it!" screamed Elli, "I got my high school diploma!"

Significance-
This quote shows that Elli was very proud of her acomplishment in graduating high school. I am very happy for Elli because she is finally starting to fit in to the American life. I think that Elli is going to be a very sucessful woman in her ne wlife in America.

Personal Connection-
I am very happy for Elli, and the things she has acomplished through out this book. I think she improved very much as a person, and in life. She came from being in the Holocost, to now being a sucessful woman in America.

Question-
What do you think Elli did after this? Do you think she went to collage, or started doing somthing different?

Quote #2
"Are you interested in the presidential campaign?"

Significance-
Reading this quote I could tell Elli is becoming a true American. I could tell this because she is staring to get more comfortable, and is participating, and learing about America, like the presidential campaign.

Character judgement-
I really think that Elli is going to be a sucessful person, and I am happy for her. With her learning quickly about America and the lifestlye, in no time she will make a great living a live a perfect, beautiful life.

Question-
What would you have changed in the book if you were Elli?

Hello America #5

Quote #1
"I hoped it would be. That's why I came all the way over here. Just to hear Hebrew spoken. I hope you don't mind." -Elli, Page 217

Significance-
Reading this page I noticed that Elli was pretty home sick. She came all the way to Brooklyn with Leslie, just to hear someone other than family that speaks Hebrew. Also on the way there to the meeting, Leslie and Elli look over the ancient scrolls that they just discovered in a cave near Khirbat Qumran.

Connection-
I have a connection with Elli because, one time I took a trip down somewhere in Mexico, and camped out there for about a week. I got very home sick, because I was missing everything I had, like my friends and technology. Also I was tired of not being able to understand what anyone was saying besides my family, so we took a drive to find the most Americanized place near us, just so we could hear a little English.

Question-
Have you ever been on a long trip before and felt homesick?

Quote #2
"May I have your phone number?" - the Moroccan man, page 219

Significance-
I thought it was a little weird when the man that Elli knew for not even a day asked her for her number and started to kind of try to hit on her. He was talking about all of the connections they had, and Elli was trying to get away from him but not in such a rude way. She said she was in a very big hurry and had to run to help mother, but he still did not give up.

Character Opinion-
If I was in Ellis shoes I think I would have done the same thing and tried to get away from the man, because who knows what he would do, where he came from, and his history.

Question-
How would you react if some random person came up to you, and started talking to you, and asked for your number?

Heaven to Home

The purpose of this exhibit, was to learn about Immigrants and how the evolved as they traveled into America. Some examples of the different things you could see in the exhibit are like when I read about the Jewish immigrants that traveled all the way to Amsterdam and were rejected by a dutch colony because the governor was afraid they would be too much to take care of but let them colonize in the area because it was against the governor's morals to reject priests and rabies. But the only thing was that they could only preach in private. Another example that I found interesting was that during Hitler's invasion over 100,000 Jews escaped to America. I know there were millions of Jews killed by the Nazis but to know that over 100,000 Jews found refuge in America reminds me of how so many other countries look up to us for guidance.

Quote #1
"Dr. Hirschfeld-Alex-Was here during the operation. The surgeon told Alex the tumor was benign. He wanted me to tell you." -Bubi, page 108
Significance-
After Bubi told Elli that Mother was okay, she was probably the happiest she has been in the whole book. I chose this quote because it means a lot when it comes to family. As you can tell Elii loves her mother very much and pretty much does everything with her, so if her tumor was really bad, and maybe she had passed away Elli would be a wreck.
Question-
How did you feel when you read that the tumor was benign?
Quote #2
"Thank the lord you're here." -Mother, page 119
Significance
Mother was very very happy that Frankie was there. Even though he fell of the swing and his head was bleeding, mother was happy to see him. They took him to the emergencey room, and Alex was the doctors assistance. Alex told Elli he needed help with Frankie, so Elli got a white lab coat, and helped out.
Connection-
I have a connection to being in the doctors office, and having to assist the doctor before. I was with my cousin, and he broke his arm, so the doctor had me help hold him, and take his temperature all all of that while he was putting on the cast.
Question-
What would you have done if you where in the doctors office and he asked you for assistance?

Hello America #3

Quote #1
"Why would anyone want to check your identity? Unless you have committed a crime." -Elli, page 94

Significance-
This shows how the culture might be different where Elli came from, and where she is now. Elli is not used to having people have to check you identity for little things such as going to work. With this conversation going on between Elli and Alex, about needing to have all of this identification for no reason, such as needing a passport to travel, but then you need something totally different, but the exact same, a drivers license to drive. Elli starts to get very frustrated, and is now seeing some of the downfall in America.

Question-
Have you ever though like Elli has, and thought that having a different identification card of some sort for every different thing, but all the cards are practically the same?

Quote #2
"I want to learn our faith. I want to share your life." -Alex, page 85
Significance-
Alex likes Elli very much and wants to get closer to her. At the dinner table with Mother, Aunt Celia, Uncle Martin, Bubi, and Elli, Alex starts to say a whole speech about how Elli is "His phoenix, that rose up from the ashes of Auschwitz." Mother does not really approve and try to convince Elli that, one Alex is to old for her, and that he is not the right man. Elli argues with her mother about Alex, and how she is happy with him, and comes back commenting, "Do you not want me to be happy?"
Personal Connection-
I chose this quote because it reminded me of a time when my cusion was going to get married. Everyone was discusing it at the dinner table, I was not in the conversation but I remember everyone being shocked and didn't know what to do, and then everyone was happy. The only difference with my connection, is that everyone was happy he was getting married, instead of trying to make him think twice.
Question-
How old are both Elli and Alex at this time?

#2 Hello America

Quote #1
"Six dollars is much to extravagant for a pair of shoes" -Mrs. Ryder, page 66
Significance-
Elli was in search for a new pair of shoes, because her old shoes ripped. So when she went shopping for shoes she compared all of the prices very carefully. When she finally settled for a pair of brown pumps that she found in an outlet store, she gave the sales sip to Mrs Ryder. Even though Elli hates the color brown she picked them because they are practical, and they are year round shoes, unlike sandals. Once Elli gave Mrs. Ryder the sales slip she was amzed by how much she was willing to spend on shoes. This is when Mrs. Ryder said "Siad dollars is much to extravagant for a pair of shoes", because there where sandals for about two dollars and ninety nine cents. HIAS would not pay the entire six dollars so Elli and her mother had to come up with the difference for the shoes.
Question-
Has there even been a time where when you were reading the book you put yourself in Elli's, or any of the other characters shoes?
Quote #2
"Mommy, it was back breaking work. I was supposed to cut and fold five hundred huge sheets. I barely manged fifty before i developed a acute pain in my lower back. I'll have to explain to Mrs. Ryder that I am not capable of doing such hard physical labor. I hope she'll understand, and find more suitable employment for me." -Elli, page 79
Significance-
This shows that Elli is too small, and is doing more work than she can handle. I belive Mrs. Ryder should have her doing somthing more simple, because from what it says that seems like a lot of work for anyone to acomplish. If I was Elli I would do the same and go talk to Mrs. Ryder about doing so much work.
Personal Connection-
I can feel some of what Elli is feeling, because if I want to buy somthing big like a T.V., my parents would match whatever I had, and if I didnt have enough then, i would have to do a lot of very hard work, to make a couple dollars. I would have to keep doing a whole load of work until i had enough to where I had half the money to buy the item, and my parents would pay the difference.
Question-
Has there ever been a time where you think someone is asking to much of you? (Like how Elli had to fold five hundred sheets of paper)

#1 Hello America

The significance of this post is how everyone used to live in their own country. Elli states that life would be better in America, because the life style is so different, like how it seems as if there is no one starving and the enforcement that the police officers do to you is different. They do not cause you to be hurt. Elli also knows that Americans have not seen or been in a war and they do not know what its like.
I can relate to this because The first time I went to London everything was so different, they drove on the other side of the road, and the drivers seat was on the other side too! Everyone seemed very nice and helpful. The first time I went my sister was still in a stroller, so every time we had to go up stairs or something like that there would always be someone there to help carry it up.

book review

Book Review
Christopher Lane Floyd
Enrique's Journey
Enrique's Journey is a book that I would recommend to people that like more of an adventure, but not as much action. I recommend this book to those people because this book is all most all adventure it talks about how Enrique travels for city to city, and what it takes to get there. He meets a lot of people along the way that give him little hints about things to avoid, or do along the way. Also this book can be very serious, and sad at times. There are a couple happy moments in this book, one example is when Enrique survives and does not get caught in any of the towns or train checkpoints. Every time I would put up the book and stop reading I would still want to read to find out what happens next. If you do not like reading or you get bored really easily and you need something like action, I recommend you do not read this book. I do not like reading really and especially adventure with barely any action. I did not like this book because after I read the first five or six pages, I was already bored. There was one point in the book where I was interested and wanted to keep reading to see what happened, but when that part was over I was bored again.
